31 Respiratory Diseases

Salt Lake County is a site for CDC’s Respiratory Virus Hospitalization Surveillance Network (RESP-NET). RESP-NET monitors laboratory-confirmed hospitalizations associated with influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) among children and adults. This does not include outpatient visits or emergency department visits. Salt Lake County residents who have tested positive for any of these pathogens within 14 days prior to hospitalization or during their hospitalization would count as a RESP-NET case. All three of these pathogens are viruses that can cause upper respiratory infections. While they have similarities, each pathogen is unique. They are each described further in their respective sections.
Because most jurisdictions track these diseases by season, Utah and CDC comparisons will not be provided on the next few pages.
